Wait time for first ndis planning meeting. How long did it take for you guys?

Hi guys, I'm new here. Just wondering how long you all waited for your first NDIS planning meeting? I submitted my application back in late July and I haven’t heard anything since. I’ve called a couple of times, and they keep telling me it’s being processed, but I’m starting to feel like it’s taking forever.

For a bit of context, I’m in my mid 40s and have been living with chronic pain from an old injury (amputation due to diabetes). It’s started to affect my daily life more recently, so I finally applied for some extra support, but this waiting around is starting to get frustrating.

Is this kind of delay normal? Would love to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience and how long it took for things to start moving after applying.

When I applied it took nearly four months to get the first meeting. Apparently, they’re just really backed up right now, especially with all the new processes they’ve implemented. My best advice is to keep calling them and checking in. It’s annoying, but sometimes being persistent helps. Hang in there!

Same here, it took me about 5 months from when I applied until I finally got that first meeting scheduled. They kept giving me the runaround with things being “processed.” I eventually called up every week and politely asked for updates until they pushed it through. Maybe try doing that?

It’s a slow process for sure. I’ve heard that people with more ‘urgent’ cases get seen faster, but I don’t know how they determine what counts as urgent. My first meeting took about three months from when I got access approved, but my friend who applied after me had their meeting in just under two. I guess it varies, but it’s frustrating. Stay on them!

Have they confirmed your access yet? Sometimes that can cause delays if they’re still working through approvals. I’d also double check your details are correct on their system, small admin issues can really hold things up, and you might not even know.

I’ve been approved and got my account number. I’ve called NDIS a few times since then and they just keep telling me my case is still being processed

Hmmm, fair enough. Obviously just a waiting game then.

I appreciate the advice… from everyone. It seems like waiting for months is more common than I thought. I’ll keep calling them and try to be patient, but it’s hard when you’re just sitting around wondering if they’ve forgotten about you. I might start calling more regularly, like some of you have suggested. Fingers crossed something happens sooner rather than later.
