SIL house providers - Information Request

Hi All, I hope you are well - I am creating a new communication book at our SIL property - I am wondering what information you have on your board and what you have in your house communication book?

I dont want to miss anything :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi, just for clarity, is this a communication book between staff shifts or a communication book for participants who are non verbal or partially non verbal to communicate with staff?

Hi Lauren,

Thanks for checkingโ€ฆ

Between shifts for staff - maybe a feedback or complaint or to let them know a visitor is coming to the house on a particular day for example - Is there anything else that I should include as an example of communication?

I wanted to have some reasons listed so we start off as we mean to finish and the expectation would be to have XYZ documented in the communication book rather than a conversation

No problem. Some things to include can be a sign out/sign in if staff are taking clients cards for anything (eg. medicare or keycard), a section for medication issues, eg new meds added, delay in dosage and so on. A maintenance log can also be helpful, especially if participants had specialised equipment that needs servicing.

Hey Empower and Shine

Iโ€™ve just moved this to the NDIS Business Queries and Advice category as its a business related question.

Communication Board Ideas:

  1. Daily Updates: A section for writing upcoming visitors or scheduled appointments. This can include anything from maintenance visits to participant outings.
  2. Important Notices: Highlight urgent information like health and safety reminders, upcoming inspections, or significant changes in house policies.
  3. Feedback and Complaints: A simple section to log any feedback or concerns from staff. This could also be complemented with a formal complaint process detailed in the communication book.
  4. Reminders for Documentation: Encourage staff to write everything in the communication book to maintain consistency.

Communication Book Ideas:

  1. Shift Handover Notes: A section for staff to leave detailed notes for the next shift, including participant updates, medication reminders, and any incidents or highlights from the shift.
  2. Visitor and Appointment Log: A space to record who is visiting and why, including the dates and times of appointments or any house guests.
  3. Complaints and Feedback: A clear section for staff to raise concerns or suggestions, including follow-up actions to ensure things are addressed.
  4. Household Routine Updates: Any changes in routines or new house rules that need to be communicated to all staff.

Its up to the specific provider as to what system they want to employ and how they want to organise everything, but these things should cover most of the usual things.

Oh and:

  • List of shopping items that have run out
  • List of maintenance/cleaning things that are needing to be done
