Hi, my name is Linda Amer.
I am a sole trader and have been providing disability services to NDIS participants since 2020. I am based in Kwinana and service South of River and Eastern suburbs.
I have a wheelchair accessible vehicle available to take wheelchair users out into the community.
However, my real niche is mental health and trauma.
I have more than 30 years lived experience with mental illness and recently obtained my Certificate IV in Mental Health.
I can assist NDIS participants on their personal recovery journey through peer support, mentoring, creating tailor made recovery plans, developing coping strategies and problem solving skills and more depending on your personal needs.
My values are honesty, integrity and transparency.
Welcome to the group.
What kinds of costs are involved in maintaining a wheelchair accessible vehicle?
Hi Lauren, well a wheelchair accessible vehicle is more expensive to purchase, it uses more fuel than a small car and insurance is more expensive. Apart from that it is just regular servicing of the vehicle and occasional servicing of the wheelchair ramp.
Hi There @Lindaamer & welcome! We provide similar mental health peer support, though specialise in the mental health impacts of disability specifically and run via telehealth, so able to provide support across the country I look forward to hearing your perspectives in discussions and happy to see another lived experience provider here
Hi Sara, thank you for connecting. I can imagine that living with a disability can be a traumatic experience in itself and therefore create many mental health issues. My niche is trauma.
Hi Linda. Welcome to the community! Itβs great you have a wheelchair accessible vehicle as it should make you more employable. I think it really helps to have lived experience to help inform your practice
Hello Melissa, thank you for your kind words.
What area (and state) are you in? And what services do you provide?
Hi Linda. I live in Adelaide which is in SA. I provide all the typical services support workers can provide. I have lived experience of mental health also. I have thought about specializing in supporting clients with mental health issues. I support one client with mental health issues and I enjoy it immensely. How did you find the psychosocial recovery and mental health training? How long does it take to complete each course?
Hi Melissa, I did both courses online. Cert IV Mental Health is 15 units, and we got 12 to 15 months to complete them including 80 hours of work placement. I did it in 6 months, but I had 3 course credits due to my cert III. As for recovery coaching, that depends on the course. There are courses for 2 mornings or self paced. I did the self paced one and it took me about 5 evenings to complete. You have to find a way that works best for you and fits within your schedule.
