Recently, I heard a discussion about whether the NDIS might cover expenses related to professional sex workers as part of personal health and wellness supports. Does anyone have accurate information on this?
Welcome to PNP forums!
The NDIS operates under strict guidelines where any funded services must meet ‘reasonable and necessary’ criteria. Funding for professional sex workers is not standard and would require a comprehensive justification based on the individual’s severe health requirements.
In the community, I’ve encountered a couple of cases where participants received support for professional sex worker visits, focusing on significant mental and physical health benefits. These approvals are rare and highly regulated.
A friend of mine was able to use their NDIS plan for such a service, facilitated by their support coordinator. Like others have said though it isn’t common. The SC that facilitated it told us that it’s strictly based on individual plans and specific needs identified by medical professionals.
It took some time to get the go ahead for it.
Discussing such needs with your NDIS support team is important. Each situation is evaluated on its own merits, ensuring that the support provided aligns with the personal needs and contributes to the well-being of the participant.
