Hello to all of the independents currently using the site.
I have a participant in need of a support worker. Location is Altona Meadows Victoria.
At the moment it is one day a week, Monday’s for 4 hours, with the potential to include a weekend day if the match up goes well. Tasks will include assisting with minor meal prep, grocery shopping, picking up medication, companionship and cooperation with the care team to assist in getting well-being goals met. There are also occasional shifts available when her other support workers are on leave (typically Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).
Requirements:
- We need someone well versed in significant mental health support.
- We need someone who is able to set strong boundaries with the participant due to the nature of the disability, and someone who can communicate well with the rest of the care team.
- The participant has a preference for Caucasian workers for mental health reasons.
- The participant will only work with female workers.
Allied health assistance training and experience working with hoarders is a bonus.
A little about the client, she can be sweet but her mental health is in decline causing mood swings. She does have a hoarding issue and steady progress has been made in decluttering and organising her home to make it functional for both the participant and staff. When out shopping she needs to be tactfully distracted from purchasing unnecessary goods while being mindful of her choice and control. She suffers from juvenile arthritis which she has a physiotherapy plan for and needs encouragement to participate in. She has a chronic breathing issue caused by heavy smoking but she decided to quit and for the last 3 months has been sticking to that goal. She lives with her son and dog. She requires a lot of patience and motivation to participate in her care plan and is very strong willed once she sets her mind to something.
If you think this sounds like a role where you could make some genuine positive change together with the rest of the team please reach out for an interview. I will reiterate that you really do need to have solid mental health experience to take on this role both for your comfort and for the wellbeing of the participant. If successful with the interview a meet and greet will be arranged with the participant as they will have the final say.
Hoping to hear from some great candidates.
