Hi Waqas, thanks for the post. Curious how you go about making your matches between participants and support workers?

Hi there,

That’s a great question and really important when it comes to building strong, lasting support relationships.

Here’s how we go about matching participants with support workers:

Understanding the Participant First:

I start by getting a deep understanding of the participant’s:

Goals (e.g., independence, community access, routine support)
Personality and preferences
Support needs (e.g., personal care, social engagement, behaviour support)
Cultural background, communication style, gender preferences, etc. if relevant)

This helps make the match more personal rather than just “filling a shift.”

Once we have this information, we then pair them with a support worker who will be a good fit for them for example we will never pair someone who is not comfortable doing personal care with a participant who needs personal care. Experience level vs participants needs is our focus at this stage.

After the first few shifts, I always check in with both the participant (or their family) and the support worker to see how it’s going. If something feels off, I’ll address it early or consider a different match. I have tried to summarise it as best as I could however there is some more work which happens behind the scenes to ensure we are setting up a good & long lasting bond.
