Functional Capacity Assessment Suggestions

Hey everyone!

I recently got approved for NDIS and part of my funding includes a functional capacity assessment. I have a hard time knowing what supports are out there and don't want to miss out on anything that could be helpful. I already have support workers and therapy, but I feel like there might be more that I'm unaware of.

What kind of supports should I be asking about in my FCA? Any advice would be appreciated, especially from those who've been through this process!

I’ve been in a similar spot! One thing that helped me was having a support coordinator who really knew what was available. They pointed out things like therapy supports I hadn’t even considered.

I also highly recommend asking about assistive technology, things like noise cancelling headphones or weighted blankets can be game-changers. And if you struggle with daily tasks, definitely ask about support for that too.

You’re not alone in feeling unsure about what’s available there’s so much out there that it’s hard to keep track. I found that building a good relationship with my OT was key. They helped me get things like an adjustable work chair, fidget tools, and even some cooking aids.

Also, don’t forget about things like community access support if you struggle with getting out and about. They can really broaden your options in terms of socialising and doing activities you enjoy.

Don’t worry too much, just being open with your OT about your struggles will help them guide you in the right direction.

I’m with the others on this one. If you’re unsure, just be open about where you struggle most in your daily life, and let the OT come up with suggestions. They’re there to help you find what works best.

Great that you’re getting your FCA sorted! I’d suggest focusing on your goals, what do you want to achieve in the next year? Whether it’s learning a new skill, getting more independence, or even just reducing stress in daily life, make sure your goals align with what you’re asking for. The more your supports match your goals, the better chance you have of getting the right funding.
