Extended Wait Time for Plan Review Decision

We submitted a request for a plan review on January 5, and we’ve had no updates since then. My support coordinator has followed up multiple times, but all we get is “we’re experiencing delays.” We’ve also filed a complaint with NDIS, but still no response. According to their guidelines, they should provide a decision within 28 days and notify us if they need more time. I’ve had to stop some critical supports for my daughter. How can I get them to prioritise this?

Coordinator here. It’s a tough situation. I have several clients in the same boat, waiting since December. Whenever I call, it feels like I’m talking to someone who’s new and unsure.

It’s exactly how it feels on my end. It’s really frustrating.

Hi, I’ve had success by contacting the office of the Minister for the NDIS directly. Old mate Bill Shorten. You can reach out here: Minister Contact. His team tends to respond quickly to these kinds of escalations.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just sent old mate Bill a message :joy: :joy:. Hopefully, this will get things moving. I’m sure they get 1000 of these kinds of messages a day though .

The NDIS guidelines state they should decide within 28 days. You can check the details here: NDIS Guidelines. Without a decision, you can’t escalate to the AAT yet, but here are some steps: Contact the NDIS planner from your last correspondence, document everything, and write to your local Federal MP. Follow up with a phone call. You’ve messaged Bill I see. That was the other suggestion I had.

Thanks. This isn’t a routine review; it falls under “Request a plan reassessment,” which should be 28 days. The constant delays for setting dates and approvals are really frustrating.

Yes, 28 days is the standard. If the reassessment isn’t processed within that time, it goes to the backlog for another review. Sometimes the planner doesn’t leave contact details, complicating follow-ups. Local MPs can help, but contacting the Minister’s office directly has been effective for me multiple times. Also, be mindful of the updated Consent Form on the NDIA website, which now requires you to indicate what information you DO NOT want to share.

When my reassessment was delayed, my support coordinator intervened directly with the NDIA, and it sped things up. It doesn’t always work, but it helped once.

Mine took almost three and a half months.

Thank you all for your advice. Your suggestions give me hope and new actions to take. I really appreciate your help.
