I was officially approved to become a participant in the NDIS just a few days ago after applying back in September. I had no idea until I reached out to my LAC this morning for an update. She mentioned it in her reply, which felt a bit off. She said, "Did the NDIS reach out to you about this?" Well, no they didn’t. No letter, email or anything. It seems like others have been waiting much longer than me for their first plan, which is wild.
I have a couple of conditions and this past year has been a rollercoaster of doctor visits, diagnoses, endless paperwork, and juggling Centrelink. It's been a lot of trial and error with medications, too, which takes its toll physically and mentally.
Honestly, I can't imagine going through all of this without a solid support network or someone to lean on. It’s so draining, repeating everything to different people over and over again and calling for help, hoping for some relief.
I know my plan will come through eventually, but right now, the wait is tough. Anyone else feeling this way? I’d love to hear your positive stories or just anything that helped get through the process.
A lot of participants I have met and worked with have described a very similar experience when first joining the NDIS system, so you aren’t alone. The whole reason many people join is because they are overwhelmed, things have gotten out of hand and they need help. It adds one more thing, which is actually a whole bunch of little things, to your plate.
The only consolation I can offer is that once things are settled in place, and you find supports that meet your needs (this can be bit trial and error too) things can get so much better.
Ugh, that waiting game is brutal. I had a similar experience, taking forever just to get answers and I felt like I was constantly repeating myself. You’re not alone in this struggle, trust me.
The NDIS system is such a struggle, no doubt about it, sometimes it just feels like too much. But once you get the right support, things can slowly start getting better.
Hi There @MooringMinuet_43,
I hear you- waiting for NDIS support to come through is tough! Feel free to keep reaching out if it would help connecting with community in the meantime. With you.
You have to go though the NDIS storm before you can reap the benefits. We have a community full of people here who have been through this, so you’re in good company.
Welcome to the platform Lilly
As mentioned above, you’re in good company here. Don’t hesitate to leverage the community here for assistance if things don’t go to plan.
We’re in a transitory period with the NDIS at the moment and there are many people faced with unpleasant situations induced by the NDIS.
It’s really messed up that we have to jump through so many hoops to get the support we clearly need. The system feels so broken sometimes. But like you said, it’s just a matter of hanging in there, I guess.
Honestly, the whole process feels like it’s built to wear you down. I’ve had my own share of issues with delays and lack of communication. It can feel like you’re just invisible at times.
