Support Coordination is Only for High Needs Participants:
Many believe that only participants with high needs qualify for Support Coordination. In reality, support coordination can benefit a broader range of participants, not just those with complex needs. Our goal is to provide the right level of support to help all participants navigate and maximise their NDIS plans effectively.
Support Coordinators Make Decisions for Participants:
A common misconception is that Support Coordinators make all the decisions regarding services and supports. The truth is, Support Coordinators assist participants in making informed choices. We prioritise providing choice and control, allowing participants to make decisions that best suit their needs and goals.
All Support Coordinators Offer the Same Services:
It’s a myth that all Support Coordinators provide identical services and have the same expertise. In reality, Support Coordinators vary significantly in their experience, knowledge, and specific services they offer. It’s important for participants to find a Coordinator who understands their unique needs and goals.
These misconceptions can lead to misunderstandings about the role and value of Support Coordination. At Healthy Emporium, we strive to provide detailed, personalised support to help you make the most of your NDIS plan. We are committed to debunking these myths and ensuring clarity for all participants.
I definitely used to think support coordination was only for people with really complex needs. It’s good to know that it can still be useful even if your situation isn’t as complicated. Might have to look into this more because I’m certified hopeless
Yes we have very high functioning participants that we support for Support Coordination, we have all walks of life. I just wrote another article about how to find a suitable Support Coordinator and more info around what we do - Feel free to take a read of it, it might have some good info in there for you.
I assumed all support coordinators were basically the same, but I’ve had very different experiences depending on who I was working with. Finding the right fit definitely makes a difference.
Support coordinators making decisions for participants is accurate. I had a coordinator once who kept pushing me towards certain providers like I didn’t have a say. Ended up switching to someone who actually listened. Big difference.
I feel like a lot of people don’t really understand what support coordinators do. It’s frustrating when they think they just handle everything for you instead of helping you figure things out for yourself.
@HealthyEmporium I’ve always been curious, what does the day in the live of a support coordinator look like in the best way you can describe it? Help us (me) understand .
Exactly! Our job is to basically work ourselves out of a job by assisting with building capacity - However not everyone is able to do so and we do need to remain their SC ongoing.
Oh it varies soooo much as each participant we work on is different. We could be sourcing a cleaner for one person, assisting with a location move into a new state, or working with someone who’s suicidal and providing them with crisis support. We work alot with Child Safety and Mental Health Units within Hospitals.
