Edible Education, Everyone Can Cook (a few recipes included)

If you do the creamless version I have had it last up to 6 months as long as it stays frozen the cream version only lasts about 3 months before its not quite right.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you cooking is easy or make you feel down if cooking makes you feel tired or burns you out.

This was a small snapshot of what my brain was doing while I was cooking remembering recipes and googling things. And I still haven’t cleaned up yet.

What if we could crowdsource recipes specifically tailored for people with different disabilities? Like, have a database where people rate recipes based on how easy they are to make depending on specific needs (e.g., low-vision friendly, arthritis-friendly). It could help take some of the guesswork out of meal prep. Think there’s a need for something like that?

There definitely could be. Personal preferences might make it a bit complicated though. It would be interesting if someone could pull it off

@JakeWest can a recipe page with a star rating system be a thing on here?

Umm, to do it properly, we’d have to custom build it. It wouldn’t be too difficult. People could filter based on their disability, the star rating and the kinds of food they like. The only difficulty I would foresee is, just because one person with a certain type of disability would be capable of making something, it doesn’t mean that someone else with the same disability would have the same success (due to how affected by that disabilitysomeone is).

With version 2 of the platform and the ability to create your own communities, we could make the search engine a tab within your own community. It would be just a one off for your community/group if we did it. Just because you’re currently one of our earliest and most active provider members and you provide a lot of value to the community. I’m happy to provide you the tools you need to provide more value. So if you wanted it, I’d be happy to have it built just for your community alone. You could provide me with info as to how you’d want it to be.

@Ava Yeah, I’d definitely be interested in something like this.

@Michael7 I hadn’t considered adaptive tool either. My OT has never mentioned anything like this to me before.

@Benjamin I do love me some 2 minute noodles too.

That sounds so good Lauren. I’m all about those indulgent meals every now and then, especially when the slow cooker does all the work. Spicy sweet BBQ ribs sound amazing. Do you pair them with anything, or just dive in as they are? Definitely gonna try something like that next time I want a comfort meal.

Normally I either make a mash potato or roast veggie mix to go with it but they arent the star of the show.

I never thought about using different mince options, but I love the idea of switching it up with pork or chicken. I’m always looking for ways to keep things interesting, so I’ll definitely give that a go next time. Thanks for the suggestion.

My brain does weird things when I am cooking and crafting.

Haha, I love this too.

I get overwhelmed having too much on my mind at once or else my brain feels like its starts to melt and stops working all together. Too many tabs open at once.

This kind of picture layout with captions would make a great scrapbooking page, visually demonstrating the debilitating nature of feeling overwhelmed haha.

In case anyone was curious, the adaptive tools concept applies to a lot of things. For example, gardening. Having a good OT can make a lot of difference to the activities you can engage in.

Weather is warm

Needs summery fruit salad. Watermelon, rock melon, apple, pineapple, strawberry, blackberry, blueberry.

Todays fun tip is to use your rice cooker to cook a whole meal.

In mine I have 3 cups of brown rice, water, a cup of peas and chopped carrots, some barramundi I grilled and cut up, a splash each of soy sauce, fish sauce, mirin seasoning and oyster sauce, a table spoon of crushed garlic and ginger and a pinch of chilli. Serves 2 with a serve left to freeze for another day.

Done and tasty

Now this is a thread I can get behind :yum:. The information here is amazing.

Where did you come up with the idea to cook an entire meal in a rice cooker lol. Who does that.

Sounds like a husband thing to do actually
